Hop Toi Mahjong

Accessibility statement

Everyone is welcome at this table.

We want every visitor to read our pages, request a lesson, find an event and join our newsletter without needing help from anyone else.

Our commitment

A welcoming table starts with a welcoming site

Hop Toi Mahjong is a social club built around bringing people to the table. That only works if the website is welcoming too. We design and check these pages for people who use a screen reader, a keyboard instead of a mouse, magnification, or voice control.

Our lessons, open play and private gatherings happen in person across Southwest Florida, and they are open to everyone. If you need an accommodation at an event, tell us and we will arrange it.

The standard we follow

WCAG 2.2, Level AA

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. WCAG is the recognized international standard for accessible websites, and the one most often referenced in United States accessibility law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Meeting a standard is not a one-time event. We revisit these pages whenever the site changes, and we correct problems as soon as we hear about them.

Where we stand

What we have done

  • Written a description for every photo, and marked purely decorative artwork so screen readers skip it.
  • Labeled every field in our lesson request and newsletter forms, with clear messages when something is missing.
  • Made the site usable with a keyboard alone, including a “Skip to main content” link and a visible outline on whatever is selected.
  • Checked text and background colors so writing stays readable on both phone and computer.
  • Kept movement quiet for visitors who have asked their device to reduce animation.
  • Made our newsletter invitation closeable with the keyboard, and kept it from returning on every visit.
  • Written every page in plain language, with one clear heading following the next.

What is still in progress

  • Event registration happens on Luma, a separate service with its own pages and its own accessibility. We will help you around anything you find difficult there.
  • Automated checks pass on every page, but they cannot tell us how the site sounds. We plan to review it with a screen reader and with people who use assistive technology every day.
  • Very large text sizes and some screen-reader behavior still need a human review.

Tell us if something is hard to use

Write to us and we will help

If any part of this site is difficult, or you would rather have the same information another way — larger print, a phone call, or a summary by email — please write to us. We read every message and reply personally, and we aim to answer within three business days.

We can also help you find or register for an event, plan a private gathering, or book a lesson directly by email.
